Dacia is expanding its lineup into the adventure-ready vehicle market with the introduction of the 2025 Sandman 4×4, a compact camper van designed for both on-road comfort and off-road exploration. Built on the proven Renault Trafic platform and borrowing drivetrain expertise from the Dacia Duster, the Sandman aims to provide a practical and budget-friendly solution for travelers, weekend explorers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
The Dacia Sandman 4×4 stands out by offering the essential features of a camper van without the high price tag. Expected to be priced between €17,000 and €20,000, it undercuts many competitors while still promising versatility and functionality. Its compact dimensions make it suitable for urban environments, while its robust features allow it to tackle unpaved roads and light off-roading with ease.
Under the hood, the Sandman offers a choice between a 1.5-liter Blue dCi diesel engine delivering 115 horsepower and a potential 150-horsepower petrol variant. It comes equipped with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The intelligent 4×4 system, using Haldex technology, ensures optimal traction by adjusting power distribution between axles depending on road conditions.
With 210 mm of ground clearance, the Sandman 4×4 is ready for varied terrains, making it a reliable companion for camping trips or backcountry exploration. Its fuel consumption is rated at approximately 6.5 liters per 100 kilometers, with a total range of up to 900 kilometers on a full tank perfect for long hauls without frequent refueling.
Inside, the Sandman is all about smart use of space. The modular interior includes a convertible sleeping area that can comfortably sleep two adults, a foldable dining space, and a compact kitchenette equipped with a portable stove and practical storage solutions.
Technology is modest but practical, featuring a central touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, along with Bluetooth and USB ports. An optional solar panel kit is also available for off-grid living, adding autonomy for longer stays in nature.
Dacia hasn’t compromised on safety. The Sandman includes key driver-assistance features such as lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, hill descent control, and incline assist. Safety systems include autonomous emergency braking, multiple airbags, and a reinforced chassis for added protection on and off the road.
